The Hilliest long distance road cycling event in the uk

Pure Peak Grit (PPG) is a self-supported road cycling challenge linking together virtually every categorised climb in the Peak District National Park.

The ride is significantly over 600km long with over 13,000m of ascent. It includes at least 44 fearsome hills with gradients beyond 25%.

The inaugural PPG was undertaken by 10 women in 2019, with 4 successful completions; 2 of them within the 48 hours.

Pure Peak Grit was opened as public challenge event in 2022, and also ran in 2024, 2025 and 2026. 

In 2026, we launched the "PPG Prologue", going back to our routes of women in endurance and ultra-distance cycling.  The Prologue is aimed at introducing more women into ultra-distance cycling and race, in a supported format.

We’re excited to share that the next edition of the full PPG and Prologue is set for 26th June 2027.

The full PPG consists of three loops, all returning to a central HQ:

• Pure Hope Loop

• Peak of Darkness Loop

• Grit and Glory Loop 

... for some the challenge of one or two loops alone will be enough!

PPG HQ is currently based at Barn Farm Camping, Birchover which has fabulous Peak District views, great facilities for riders and spectators and plenty of peacocks...  Friends and family are more than welcome to join the party throughout the weekend!

Every year PPG supports a charity with links to the Peak District, supporting people in the local area or participating in outdoor activities.  

This year PPG will be supporting the Wildfire Appeal, run by the Peak District National Park Foundation and a proportion of the entry fee from every rider will go towards making the Peak District National Park a safer, better place to cycle or just enjoy being outdoors.

PPG is a not-for-profit organisation association and after expenses and charitable donations, we reinvest into the event for future years. The event is run solely by volunteers and we are massively grateful to everyone that makes this event happen!
